About Michael James Anthony
My background
Michael J. Anthony, a lifelong learner and storyteller, has shared his journey in a memoir of systems that reflect on protection, survival, and truth. He has been married to Ann for nearly five decades, and together they have raised six children, becoming proud grandparents to ten.
In 1968, Michael James Anthony volunteered for service in the United States Army, where he served until 1971, earning an honorable discharge as a Sergeant.
He then built a distinguished career with the Chicago Police Department, holding roles as an officer, academy instructor, investigator, and supervisor. His work within one of the largest urban law enforcement agencies in the United States provided him with insights into complex organizational systems—exploring how they function, protect themselves, and how individuals navigate within them.
After leaving public service, Michael founded a private investigative firm that undertook complex domestic and international investigations. This firm provided advice to Fortune 500 corporations, financial institutions, law firms, and high-net-worth individuals on matters that required discretion and strategic decision-making related to protection and survival.
Despite leaving high school early, Michael returned to complete his education, earning a bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree in criminal justice, and a Master of Management degree from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.
As a licensed aircraft pilot with over forty years of flying experience, he also embraces his creativity as a musician, songwriter, and a National Geographic–trained photographer.
Throughout his life, Michael has navigated more complex systems than most people observe from the outside. These experiences—and the questions they raised—have significantly influenced the lessons explored in his memoir of systems. His diverse interests and relentless curiosity continue to shape both his work and his life.
