SYSTEMS by Michael James Anthony explores protection, survival, and truth, and the cost of the systems that shape us.
SYSTEMS is a hard-edged nonfiction memoir of systems that pulls back the curtain on the invisible forces running our lives. From the streets of Chicago to the military and law enforcement, Michael James Anthony lived inside the very systems most people trust—and what he found was unsettling: Most systems are built to function and endure. Helping people may be part of the mission, but preserving the system itself is often the higher operational priority.
Through real, high-stakes moments—where decisions carried consequences and loyalty came at a cost—this memoir reveals how systems quietly shape behavior, reward compliance, and punish those who step out of line. What looks like fairness is often control. What feels like order is often preservation, where the themes of protection, survival, and truth are intertwined.
SYSTEMS doesn’t just tell a story—it forces a realization: if you don’t understand the system you’re in, you’re already being shaped by it. This is a crucial insight found in the memoir of systems by Michael James Anthony, emphasizing the themes of protection, survival and truth. And by the time you see it clearly, the price has usually already been paid.

Michael J. Anthony is a lifelong learner and storyteller. He has been married to Ann for nearly five decades. Together, they raised six children and are the proud grandparents of ten.
In 1968, he volunteered for service in the United States Army, serving until 1971 and earning an honorable discharge as a Sergeant.
He later built a distinguished career with the Chicago Police Department, serving as an officer, academy instructor, investigator, and supervisor. Working inside one of the largest urban law enforcement agencies in the United States exposed him to the realities of complex organizational systems—how they function, how they protect themselves, and how individuals navigate within them.
After leaving public service, Michael founded a private investigative firm that conducted complex domestic and international investigations worldwide. The firm advised Fortune 500 corporations, financial institutions, law firms, and high-net-worth individuals on matters requiring discretion, judgment, and strategic decision-making.
After leaving high school early, he later returned to complete his education, earning a bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree in criminal justice, and a Master of Management degree from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.
He is a licensed aircraft pilot with more than forty years of flying experience. He is also a musician, songwriter, and a National Geographic–trained photographer.
Throughout his life, Michael has worked inside complex systems that most people see only from the outside. Those experiences—and the questions they raised—shaped the observations and lessons explored in this book.
His diverse interests and relentless curiosity continue to shape his work and his life.

The memoir of systems by Michael James Anthony will be available in hardcover, paperback, and E-books wherever books are sold, focusing on themes of protection, survival, and truth.
